It's everywhere in western media too. You'll see someone rehash a theme that was done to absolute death in like, the 70s, 80s, or even 90s, and it was already blunt in it's own time, but maybe people found it novel enough so they accepted it as new or counterculture. But now when when you do it in current year, its painfully stupid and out of date. A movie about women getting the right to vote in the 60s was a lot more topical than trying to write an allegory for women not getting to vote in 2020.
Or the "this is about a political underclass" allegory which you see sometimes. And it's like, "I hope you aren't implying that it's women and blacks, because they absolutely dominate politics and the socioeconomic landscape". It's the same sort of thing with XVI, "the crystals need to be overthrown!" is so out of date it's not even clear who this is aimed at. Is it aimed at an idea of an authoritarian right-wing? They haven't been politically relevant in almost 40 years. Is it an attack on religion? As if any religious structure has had power since 1850, some 170 years ago.
It feels like the thematic equivalent of a 50 year old woman wearing Forever 21 clothing.
