Not at all! Christ's teachings guided his followers upwards, and they in turn guided the rest of the world. Like anything involving people it was a bumpy process, but the job got done.
And it will keep getting done. Watch as the demographic crisis hits harder and harder because China and many other nations wouldn't listen to the instruction not to murder millions of children. Their populations are already graying. It will be those who didn't that will succeed in the long run, we already see this from economic projections.
