If there ever was a Gun Bible this is the Old Testament. It's out of copyright, you can read it free online.

When you're ready for the second half, go look up The Machine Gun by George Chinn. All volumes of that are public domain as well. Now you know everything about how guns work, from the invention of gunpowder to modern machine guns.

Two of the best books on real-deal gun design & manufacture happen to be out of copyright. If there ever was a "gun bible" then picrel is the Old Testament.

The Machine Gun by Col. George Chinn, 5 volumes, was published by the US Navy and is available online in PDF form and that picks up where Greener leaves off.

Hatcher's Notebook by Julian Hatcher and Sixguns by Elmer Keith are must-reads as well.

This is an older book but it's a *really* good one. If there ever was a "gun bible" this would be the Old Testament and Chinn would be the New.
