I think you are right. I will say though some of the "free roam" games fans made still tried to honestly translate the resource management mechanics from the point and click games into 3d with varying degrees of success (or did a 3d point and click in-between), Steel Wool didn't even try and thus for stuff like the SB formula it just ends up playing like a watered down watch_dogs mixed with varying levels of scp:cb or some bullshit like that. Hell, you could probably make it into a shooter with varying stealth mechanics (however temporary) and still keep the same elements that makes a fnaf game immediately identifiable if your imagination is big enough.

Something just ain't right with these niggas.
