What's worse is that Scott and Steel Wool could've easily just translated the CharlieBot story into game form. It would've formally introduced Henry into the game universe. He had nothing before Pizzeria Simulator. That would've made fans of the books feel like they weren't completely wasting their time. All the elements are there. Charlie being a protagonist for the new era couldn't be that bad. All they needed to do was explicitly show Henry never ended up using robot Charlie and the next installment could show Cassie releasing her.

From that perspective, Edwin and David didn't even need to exist.

I will say though some of the "free roam" games fans made still tried to honestly translate the resource management mechanics from the point and click games into 3d with varying degrees of success (or did a 3d point and click in-between), Steel Wool didn't even try and thus for stuff like the SB formula it just ends up playing like a watered down watch_dogs mixed with varying levels of scp:cb or some bullshit like that. Hell, you could probably make it into a shooter with varying stealth mechanics (however temporary) and still keep the same elements that makes a fnaf game immediately identifiable if your imagination is big enough.

I think they tried to do that with Freddy Kinda, since his power is limited, but recharge stations are so plentiful it just isnt an issue. EASILY btfos Security Breach and Ruin x100, even with Ruin it got to a point where I was like "can this just be over" despite that being not much longer than the length of this game's tutorial. Just 9 solid simple hours that felt like an ACTUAL game, the lorefags seem to be seething and admittedly im not sure if i've even processed what happened yet but as a game im overall pretty satisfied. Gameplay felt like the a natural evolution of the original games while being fresh and unique instead of whatever the fuck they were thinking before, I was skeptical but it feels good to feel this way about a new FNAF. The prototype Classics are most likely not even Edwin's, as he says he wanted to use Fiona's designs and won't budge.
