In our capital-driven society, a truly faithful adaptation of Moby Dick could not be made The society is at fault, not the book. I think Lars would be a great director for Moby Dick. I can see the nautical manual chapters being adapted like the video essays he wove into the narrative of The House That Jack Built. And he has no problem with very long films. The only sacrifice we would make is that Ishmael would be gender swapped and played by Charlotte Gainsbourg and she gets QUEEQUEG’D in a Lars original scene.
