How are the sahel junta states (Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger) losing to literal rag tag durka durkas despite having far more troops, tanks, etc and vatnik support?

Meanwhile JNIM only has around 6000 fighters at most and ISGS has only 2000-3000 fighters. Yet they are still winning and beat the junta states. Hell, its gotten so bad that Burkina Faso only controls half of its own territory. What explains this failure?
