I think it's perfectly reasonable for people to take one hard look at shippers who are mad he's a bad self-insert for shipping and think that's a pretty faggoty reason for hating the real character.
Shadow wouldn't date Amy either, btw. Half of you want Amy to move on to a character who'd be even harder to earn the love of, not only is he traumatized but he has oneitis for a different girl. Even if he didn't, Rouge is also obviously gunning for his affection with limited success. Shadow had trouble expressing his care even for Maria, he didn't know how to hug her back, and you still think he'd be a good shoulder for Amy to cry on.
