The Wimbledon 14 and Under singles draw has now been released. GB players Liv Zingg, Grace Watson, April Sackflame, and Milica Sakamoto Milojevic will be taking part. Zingg, as the third ranked player in Europe for her age group, will be a strong contender. Clarice Ouvarova, who I felt was a dark horse pick, didn't make the cut. Lily Haley, recently poached from South Africa, misses out too.
Spare a thought for Hermione Korpanec Davies, who also didn't quite make selection and was instead sent by Jaroslava to a French J30 this week. Meanwhile, middle daughter Ophelia will be busy later this month: she'll be playing a J60 and J100 in Zimbabwe in successive weeks, followed by a trip back to Europe, most likely for a J100 in Poland.
Paul Jubb, long term boyfriend of Jack Draper, has been working hard to rebuild his ranking, but suffered a disappointing R16 exit at the Winnipeg Challenger. Whether the ranking disparity has led to tension and jealousy in their relationship remains to be seen.
The W35 Roehampton is back later this month, but there is a shortage of British entrants. Mimi Xu is currently in qualifying and will presumably be upgraded to a main draw wildcard, as will Brooke Black, an alternate at the time of writing. Posters looking to stalk the overseas players are advised to book a discount out of term room at the University of Roehampton, as this is a common place to stay year after year.
