Anti-Life is effectively no different than the justification Galactus gives for devouring planets or Thanos' lust for power. Tyranical demiurges chasing and eating their own tails, afraid of simply being alive with having to put up walls or hurt others. Thanos was purely Starlin's creation, but his characterization perfectly embodies what Kirby was implying about Darkseid. A God-Man as a hurt and crying cowardly tyrant manchild who ultimately wants nothing more than friendship and maternal love, but he'd sooner kill himself (and everyone else) than admit it.
