If you manage to make hydroponic farms work on a space ship, it doesn't need to be a megaproject. That's a distinct advantage, but that also applies to many projects on earth.
You don't need to regreen all of Sahara in one day, so parts are being claimed. Bit by bit, it's becoming greener and greener. Same with Iceland, people are planting greenery. Even if the land can't be used yet, you can see the effect.
