Thor is one of my favorite comic book characters.

I've been tinkering with making my own superheroes, but I have struggled a lot with different aspects of it. Mostly the idea of advertising and commercial appeal, I think I could make something that has somewhat favorable critical reviews, but making something popular is another story altogether. I don't know if my preferences and ideas are really mainstream and truth be told I don't even know if it's good to be mainstream, catering and changing my voice to fit mainstream appeal seems kind of horrible to me.

Buy I think of someone like Kurt Cobain, who managed being authentic with some mainstream appeal. What I really want to do, is make things that are sort of counter-culture, for people who aren't part of the "in-crowd" for all those weird and different people, the misfits and outsiders.

That's what I would want to do, but I don't know if it's really viable to be honest, plus I'm not completely sure what that would look like exactly.

Sometimes, comic books for example, flirt and toy with this idea somewhat, but it's just not popular quite often which is why I would struggle.

Hell, it seems like most people who associate with subcultures, tend to like horror movies and spooky things a lot, which is sort of to my detriment, so why bother almost?

I don't know how you would capture counter-culture in a visual format like that. I think like making things gore-y would be popular maybe? But I don't know if I would want to make things gorey that would probably mean lots of blood and/or death, some kind of grittiness. Also like the supernatural, but like arcane and occult, which I am not overly interested in either.
