They could just take the Life Foundation ones and make them more unique. Maybe all of them have special weapons they can only create and then some more creative ability on top of that with their weaknesses of fire and sound. Venom spawned Carnage and he is able to do any weapon while the group is specialized. Toxin could be the Hawkeye/Green Ranger equivalent who fights the team but then becomes the new leader and tries to instill more heroism in them.
I feel like Cates and his addition of symbiote dragons is ok if they didn't become the reason for the symbol and instead are just Knull's mode of transport and that's it. Perhaps symbiotes when they get older grow bigger or turn into those dragons. The team could use one of the dragons as a bioship to travel to other planets. Or some other large symbiote organism could serve as their spaceship.
