The Tribunal Temple's official stance was that there was no Nerevarine Prophecy. They purposely covered it up because it was, in effect, the prophecy of the end of the Tribunal as gods. It caused a schism in the faith, and the only ones who believed in the prophecy were the Ashlanders (who didn't want to believe the Nerevarine could be an outlander) and the Dissident Priests who risked their lives preserving the lore (and also hated filthy N'wahs). The Nerevarine being an outlander was an unfortunate truth within an unfortunate truth. They didn't want to believe it so for the most part they didn't.

The Arch-Mage before you held the opinion that the College shouldn't be a political force. And he was in charge for longer than a Nord Lifetime. If you want to change the opinions of the Ruling Classes of Skyrim about magic and the college you're just gonna have to go out there and do some favors.
To accomplish this I recommend liberal and by-definition Sociopathic use of the School of Illusion.
