That "end of life"(eol) is usually just making a game be playable without internet connection to the publisher/dev servers. The thing is that most MMOs already have that tool because how else do you think devs test their games?
The SKG demands for THE FUTURE games to have it, of course it would be preferable for current and older games to get an official patch to make them work without dev/publisher servers. The eol would be made during the development, and wouldn't be a huge work for devs.
People tend to assume it would be a huge hassle, but like 99.9% indie devs don't face problems with this as they don't use "always-online" stuff, and the few small studios usually that do use, pushes happily patches out for it.
It is the big publishers that rarely wants to push this kind of eol plans because it would take sales from their NEW always-online game.
