So I want to make it very clear. The first mammals appear in the the late Triassic period. This is also the period in which the dinosaurs appear.
Dinosaurs would only grow to become the most dominant lifeform in the 2 periods that followed the Triassic, im talking about the Jurassic and the Cretaceous.

Throughout these 3 periods, mammals remained extremely small, even a mammal the size of a cat would be considered huge back during those 3 periods. Often they would make use of their capacity to burrow underground to hide from the dominant dinosaurs and they would also make use of their fur and warm blood to hunt at night while the dinosaurs slept.

The point im making is that while the dinosaurs dominated like no other life form had ever come to dominate the planet up until that point, the humble mammal survived, and it did so in an incredible hostile world for millions of years.

And one day, it happens, the meteor hits and the fall of the (non avian) dinosaurs begin. But guess what group survived? Guess what group came out from underground to find a scorched Earth, a darkened sky and little food but still had the resilience to struggle and live.

Thats right, the once meek and frail mammal that would hide underneath the shadow of the superior dinosaur would go on to inherent the earth.
The meek mammal would go on to rule the earth, the skies and the oceans. They would go on to occupy every ecological niche, to grow to sizes previously unimaginable.
The age of the dinosaur has come crashing down. All of them gone. The age of the mammal is here.
The planet is ours.
