If sunset never leave Equestria she might become the Celestia to twilight Luna. Honestly it doesn't make sense for Celestia to retire and leave twilight to rule It all alone since we know twilight will outlive her friends and has to raise the sun and moon by herself. If sunset is around the burden won't be as severe as at least twilight has somepony she could talk to and helps her with her duty.
