Idea guys, I need lore advice. I'm in the process of writing the creation myth of my game's in-world religion. Is the whole "fire, water, air, earth" elemental thing and having a god for each too played out? I've been reading some real world creation myths and folklore fore research (mainly the kalevala and some native American stories) and practically all of them have this same 4 elements "trope". Obviously it wasn't a trope back then, but it's since become one.
My immediate instinct tells me that yes, it is played out, but at the same time I want the characters in my game to have a deep connection to the natural world. I don't intend for this to be something that's all magical with the gods being a visible force in the game, but rather something more akin to reality where the myth is basically an explanation for why things like weather works the way it does. Blaming storms and wildfires and stuff on the behavior of unseen forces.
