both steel divisions also have active pause in singleplayer, so you can give orders in big picture then zoom in and unpause.
normandy 44 is western front and shorter ranged engagements while sd2 is eastern front with longer range/bigger maps.
normandy 44 has campaigns for singleplayer, and sd2 has an army general mode which is kinda like total war with overworld unit moving and then fighting specific skirmishes in a map.
i'd look into both and see which one interests you more.
