It is notable how Christianity valued the female figure, which may explain the prominence and influence of women in certain areas, as well as their representation in funerary inscriptions and among the elite. Compared to pagans, who were more patriarchal and patrilineal, Christianity seems to have promoted a greater visibility of women and more egalitarianism.
However, it is important to note that the representation of wives in all communities may be related to the social role expected of women and the duty to honor them, usually attributed to husbands. Furthermore, although the proportion of celebrations of wives is comparable between pagans and Christians, Christians seem to have celebrated their wives more than pagans.
