Even if Kris blames themself for what happened to Dess, I 100% believe it wasn't really Kris's fault, and Dess doesn't blame Kris.

The real/truest version of Dess is lost in the dark, and this is the person who presses back against Kris's hand at the end of chapter 4. She genuinely cares for Kris and doesn't want Kris to suffer
The knight is something like her soul-less body/corpse or some similar "fragmented" version of her. A little, but not exactly like Flowey, because the "real" Dess is still out there and separate. Kris thinks listening to it will let Kris save Dess, but that's not what it actually wants.
