The Roaring Knight has a very interesting mechanic of forcing you to use the elixir equivalent in this game instead of just hoarding it forever.

I am going to discuss this here, because I know no one will believe it anyways. I don't want it circulating in the usual circles, but it's driving me insane.
I got my hands on a demo build of Chapter 5. The assets are still early and the weird route isn't implemented at all (yet?) but a chunk of the normal route story is intact.
The knight never gets revealed. We don't get our vessel. The party is Kris, Susie, and Noelle. Ralsei isn't in the party the majority of the time because it's full and he gets upset about this.
This honestly feels like the most unsatisfying part of the game by far and I really hope it gets changed.

The Addison saying that the line on Spamton's phone was just garbage noise has always felt very Gaster-y. After 3-4 I think it might be a FRIEND thing. The "garbage noise" when you call the phone in dark world is from the track that plays in ENTRY 17 in Undertale, but the name of that track was "mus_smile". And the context of that Entry, based on Gaster's dialog, was that he opened a Dark World.
Tenna in the Mantle game also adds context to Spamton's call. He wanted Spamton to tell him his secret to being a "big shot". Tenna got Spamton to sign a deal that would've forced that, and at that moment Spamton got a phone call and his life fell apart. So the implication seems like he could not tell anyone the secret, and he lost his benefactor's support when Tenna created a situation that would force Spamton to tell.
Ramb also tells Kris "freedom is just for big shots", and he's often nearby that vending machine that sells you a SMILE for 1 point. The SMILEs are sold out after you get the Mantle. SMILE being all caps and you finding the pink and yellow OddController backstage (while Ramb says he doesn't know of anybody else backstage), it seems like FRIEND was hiding there.
FRIEND is also "at Gaster's level" in the game code. In terms of file naming conventions. His smile sprite is named like the connection/vesselmaker stuff, not a dark world asset. The Mantle fight smiles don't have names at all, they're just underscores IIRC.
I think these points ended up a little more disjointed than i intended, but to sum up, it's easy to think of the garbage noise from the cell phone in dark worlds as "gaster noise", but we could instead see it as ENTRY 17's recording has "dark world noise" or "FRIEND noise".

Be warned, much of this is conjecture.

Kris, when Dess was around, was deeply attached. They almost certainly learned to play the piano through Dess. They played with Dess and Asriel and stuck to the two over their own age group. Dess was also pretty harsh in punishing Kris, maybe a little too harsh for a mere child, but I digress.
The disappearance caused a rift between the families, and Kris was likely present in some capacity to see what happened. We cannot tell if they were there to see it or were possibly a factor in it.
The game itself has lots of themes of control and manipulation, which should be very apparent.

It's likely Dess is the Knight given the large amounts of evidence beforehand. If ERAM is also the Knight, then that's a direct communication between Kris and Dess. IF this is true, then we need to consider if Dess has been corrupted by Darkness in the same way Flowey was without a soul. We can't really tell, but for the sake of this post I'll assume it isn't true, at least to the same degree as Flowey.
Kris is working with the Knight and possibly Carol or whoever else is on the phone. Part of this may even involve the betrayal of Susie and Ralsei. Obviously a painful decision, but one that's already been made.
It is also possible that Kris blames themselves for causing everything to fall apart, as an internalized reaction.
Kris is also possibly avoiding Noelle as a result of this, notably reluctant to play the piano around her until they think they're alone, along with general avoidance. Maybe guilt?

It's a shaky argument at best, but perhaps what we know of Dess is not as wholesome as it seems. Dess, Asriel and Kris likely went on forays into dangerous places, or maybe even Dark Worlds themselves. Although we know little much about the connection between the two, a precedent already exists for using bonds to manipulate people. It's possible that whatever transpired that day may not have been as much of an accident, and something or someone may have tried to make Kris believe they were responsible.
Onto the ERAM/Knight connection, this implies Dess is aware of what's occurring and trying to unsettle Kris, or worse, mock them for the Snowgrave route. The Knight also clearly goes easier on Kris than the other two, and picks up on things Kris does, and there's of course the "knighting" sprite name. Betraying their friends for the Knight obviously has some VERY important significance to Kris, and it may just very well be Dess. The same Dess trying to release a horde of world destroying Titans.
A lot of it is based off thematic reasoning, but I feel like Kris and Dess were much closer than people think, and because of it Dess was often very manipulative to a young and impressionable Kris. Maybe even to the point of gaslighting them into believing that incident was their fault and that their families breaking apart is their fault as well. I mean, if ERAM IS Dess, she quite literally does... Snowgrave could simply just be a repetition of that cycle.
I'm not at ALL confident in what I wrote, please poke as many holes in it as you can or reinforce it if you want.

I feel like people have really glossed over Kris making the Chapter 3 Fountain.

Like, the implication is clearly there that they did it in service of the Knight so that Undyne could get got, that part is pretty straightforward.
But I don't see people talking about WHY Kris had to be the one to do all that. Even assuming the initial setup had to be Kris, why not just leave the door open and have the Knight come in and make the Fountain while they're sleeping?

It feels like a big deal that may imply the Knight CAN'T make Fountains normally. Like maybe Susie was on point with her mocking of the Knight in Chapter 4 and the Knight can't make a Fountain outside the Dark World.
If so, it would raise questions of who was making the Fountains for the Knight in the Light World. Kris did Chapter 3, Alvin may have been convinced for Chapter 4, but 1 & 2 are still up in the air.

1. the goal of ch3's dark world (instigated by kris via opening the fountain and slashing the tires) was to kidnap undyne, (in chapter 4 we're also told via the phone there'll be a police sacrifice next week) not to get her code, Kris' actions in chapter 4 imply he's aware of the code and is trying to hide it from Susie (since the phone also instructs him to keep her away) so whatever conspiracy is going on behind the scenes they already know the code and are trying to keep it away from susie who seems to be a rogue element in the entire prophecy/plot. im assuming the same thing goes for the church with the target potentially being alvin since we didnt see him after we closed the fountains. as for what the purpose is, that's likely related to the greater plot at hand,
2. il go with occam's razor in here and assume it means that their goal is not simply to bring about the roaring, my assumption is that kris/carol/knight in whatever shape or form their relationship is currently operating require (us) for something later down the line, so they're pacing themselves and stringing us along towards some greater objective (maybe sacrificing (us) to somehow revive dess' soul or some such)
