To be honest, the reason why WotR is so beginner averse is because of single reason.

DRETCHES.

Imagine that you boot up your new role-playing game, and go through your tutorial. You then make your way to surface, and come face to face with the most stupid-looking little shits imaginable.
And what is their move? They spam the most effective early game CC AoE imaginable.

Thus, the first fights are watching as your entire 4-6 numbered team is stunned for half-a-minute or longer, all the while as fat versions of house elves from harry potter try their best to nibble them to death. And if they have any other demons with them (all immune to Stinking cloud ofc) you better start loading game already.
And they love to pop out of fog of war and ruin whatever plans you had. And just in case you think you can snipe them, there is propably more than one anyhow.

Not available as mass version until at least level 5 at most. You'd have to waste all your spell slots to keep them up anyhow. And after you start using it Dretches turn into fucking non-entities. Not to mention that a noob propably wouldn't get the fact that Delay negs Stinking cloud completly.

Who the fuck thought that Dretches were a good idea?
