I wouldn't say I "hate" it. I enjoy lots of anime games/shows even if they're not conceptually that interesting. And Hiruko makes it worthwhile.

idk part of it is just my unreasonably high standards. Even a lot of "classic" works of Western literature are not actually that deep or interesting imo, when compared to actual philosophy books.
The biggest exception in anime that comes to mind is Umineko. That's an anime story that I think is actually just a really great and successful work of literature. But exceptions at that level are rare.
