True. They're more or less random siddhaṃ characters for a buddhist flair.

I'm not exactly an expert, but I'm pretty sure they have both QWERTY and たていすかんな (I guess it's called) layouts, which could be used interchangably depending on the user. Also, I don't think ZUN wrote it like that because he thought it was the most correct according to contemporary romanization standards or didn't notice that it wasn't. It's not that unusual for japanese artists/writers/etc to use unorthodox or outdated romanization for aesthetic value. Take the game 蘭丸 LAM-MAL, for example... Unless there's some deeper reason for spelling Ranmaru as Lammal, but my point still stands, it can be a stylistic choice.
