I think videogames are largely spent. if you're about my age, like mid 30s, we were blessed/cursed to have lived through the zenith of innovation, creativity and soul in videogames. and now we're in the nadir which will never end. every form of popular media goes through this. movies, music, etc and now videogames are just the latest. we're in the endless remake/rehash/adaptation phase. a complete dearth of new ideas and concepts. just new layers of technology that separate the creator and consumer from the art, or what used to be or aspire to be art

we stay interested because we want to experience the 90s/00s again and we stay disappointed or disinterested because its never going to be that good again
