You say this but you were also taught at some point that lying is usually hurtful, and weak. I don't believe in free will but you cannot use the past to excuse your current behavior if you want to hold yourself to a higher standard. Choose not to lie. Not only is it the right thing to do whether others appreciate it or not, it makes you less reliant on others.
