I've never actually bothered to do the calculations and compare the fuel cost of my bikes before.
-KTM 125 Duke - 90mpg being generous - around £6 per gallon - £0.07 per mile
-Zero DS - averages somewhere around 10 miles per kWh - £0.26 per kWh - £0.026 per mile
I just recently crossed 10.6k miles on the Zero so it's cost me roughly £275 to do so (a little less because I've charged for free in some situations). The same distance on the Duke would have cost £742. With a difference in purchase price of around £5.5k I'd need to do 125k miles to break even, or 78k miles if I was always charging for free.
One of the things I do like however about riding an electric bike is being able to charge at home, not having to go out of my way to go to a petrol station. I wake up in the morning and go out to my bike and it's always full (if needed).
