Japan lost it's "Coolness" in the 2010s. I personally don't know why. Maybe it was the attempt to draw in more Westerners, so the Chuuni stuff had to go. Maybe it's because the new creators are "recycled" creators, who didn't actually experience life, they're just recycling other media they kind of liked (this is also a huge problem in the West). Maybe Digital stuff (video, drawing, etc) is just hard to inscribe with "soul" and "coolness", as seen with how hard it is for a lot of 3D models to look good in these games (looking at you SNK).
You can also notice this loss of coolness with Kamen Rider. Y2K KR had an edge to them that was lost when the 2010s arrived.
