Wit is used for the final spurt roll even if you're out of stamina.
1k Wit means it's nearly a 100% success chance to succeed the very first roll and so even if you're out of stam you wont lose any spurt distance. Wit is also what determines how fast you are during the first through middle sections of the race.
Your Speed stat does literally nothing for most of a race. It does not make you faster until the final stretch. Super Creek's unique skill is also a stamina restore so she needs less stam
