I don't reject the principle of being strong lets you compel others to do as you please, but as always with these Youkai, they're omitting an important detail: transactions and relationships are rarely zero sum, which must be hard for a Tengu to understand. I guess it's really impossible for Aya to teach me how to make friends with birds in that case, since I could compel a crow to do something with my superior strength , but it's not as if that creature would like being forced around. Cats are a good example of this where you can befriend them slowly by being conscious of behaviors, like recognizing when you're overstimulating them with affection, eventually a cat will grow to like you and actually do things for you like catching small animals and returning your affections.
It's interesting because I think many people, especially those that study civics, fall into the trap of Zero-sum hierarchies. I wonder if this lie initially came from corrupted Tengu knowledge?
