Some influencer at some point said he was "autism representation" and yet I cannot for the life of me find any official source that says he actually is.

The movie does an extremely piss poor job of having him represent an autistic child, mainly because you could write off all his quirks on Elio grieving the death of both of his parents. He is otherwise very normal and mentally capable in ways even a high functioning autistic child would struggle with. The aunt is honestly more unhinged than he is.

It's a cute movie but it also feels like they copied Over The Moon and made it less of a musical and more actiony. Interviews say the movie theme was supposed to be a pun on "alienation" but the aliens all instantly adore him like he's Steven Universe and they're gems.

I think the main reason this movie ate shit this weekend is because the HTTYD remake is just too good.
