Why do people say this? Yes there's pickles/kimchi. But outside of that, every main dish that's not spicy tastes just light and maybe a bit sweet. German and American food also have pickles, but are considered "unseasoned". American food arguably has stronger flavors than many Taiwanese and Japanese main courses too.
