For me the whole thing just felt like that sense of grand scale of the primary conflict absolutely fell off of a cliff after act 2. Like man, when you first load into lumiere with that looming monolith in the distance as you slowly piece together what these people are "celebrating" and ultimately fighting for, I've never been so hooked in my fucking life. And then it just drip feeds you more and more of the mystery with the ever looming threat and size of the monolith getting closer the whole time, culminating in that final fight and genuinely having no idea if the game is about to fucking end or what can even possibly come after what you just did.
But by the end it's such an interpersonal and small scale story and there are literally only two characters that matter at all. Doesn't have anything to do with "the painting people are fake!!"" or whatever wrong bullshit, it's just that basically nothing is important except the dysfunctional broken family dynamic
It's not a bad story and I think the dilemma the characters face is meaningful and worth talking/thinking about but it's just not that I was ultimately hoping to see with what hooked me about the game in the first place.
