It's all kind of a shame because I actually like the idea of playing the mecha equivalent of DS9, with you on the side of an imperialist communist power filled with good actors who genuinely believe in their message, but clashing against established frontier/regional colonies who want to do their own thing. Meanwhile, arms merchants and opportunistic industrial powers churn the waters to keep material wealth flowing and their influence strong, and Union has to reconcile feeding off of the capitalist exploitation they came to power resisting - it's all so true to genuine revolutions I can't help but think the authors were doing it intentionally. But then I see a comment from one or a discussion over the 'actual intended lore' and I realise it wasn't intentional at all.
