When I played D3 I found mao's and beryl's relationship really heartwarming desu, she's a great friend(ly rival) and drags mao's NEET ass out of his room to go do things like a blood drive. mao's incredibly volatile throughout basically the entire game over having anything resembling friendship (which he gets mocked for by the vato brothers lmao), and its nice to see that even before when the story starts and mao is his most anti-social he did have a relationship with someone (who isn't Geoffrey). and he does care about her (and with a little egging on from almaz) enough to prevent the PTA from brainwashing her.
