>I don’t get how to mark the hip line in an angled pose and what contours I’m supposed to mark with it
feel your own hip bones at either side of your stomach. the hard spots which feel uncomfortable if you lie down on your side or stomach
one possible hip-angle-indication you can draw can just be a line connecting those two bumps
or you could indicate the whole pelvis a box, or do a very rudimentary bone-approximation, and so son. it is up to you to experiment, understand and develop your own, personal set of shortcuts and tools <3
>I don’t know how you’re supposed to sculpt a torso from a rhythm line
here again, there are many approaches. dont copy one beyond its usefulness to you. experiment, be willing to abandon or change. but the "bean" method is pretty easy and i think allows you to use the rhythm line pretty directly. sorry for this cringe youtube short video, the actual video is age restricted. ignore the cringe, just watch it until you see the bean torso shape and try it. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/NTbi5b8XeC0
>every attempt I make at a rhythm line is a different line shape altogether from the author’s example
yeah this main "rhythm line" (i never give them names in my head, i just think of the "longest" line or the one that carries the biggest part of the persons weight) i sometimes seemingly arbitrary. if your main gesture line differs from the artist you are copying, it does not have to mean that you are "wrong"! but... since you are a beginner, chances are it does mean you are off with high probability lel
it comes down to practice until you can confidently identify it "correctly"
