Honestly anon, I still have a job and I’m in a specialization that has been relatively immune to the current climate we’re in (even people I know that have been laid off have found jobs pretty quickly) and I’ve largely stopped looking at /g/ because tech isn’t fun anymore
I’ve started doing martial arts again after a 10 year gap and have been focusing more on my music, both of which I objectively suck at and will never be able to make a career out of, especially at my age
Yes I know it’s cringe to be a 40-year-old white belt, no I don’t care
Meanwhile, every time I open up a code editor outside my 9-5 to heckin upskillerino, I stare at it blankly for half an hour then give up
This did start around the time the tech companies pushed AI, but I don’t think it’s that, because I’m fine using AI at work
I think the old guard at /g/ is just getting old and tired of tech, and there’s no new blood left because of the job market, so no one’s excited anymore
