I think Cyrus, first king of the Persian Empire, was a great role model for men. He won kingship for himself, brought prosperity to his people, brought other nations into the empire with tolerance and respect instead of the humiliation of conquest, and earned for himself the title "The Great."
I think Tomyris, queen of the Massagetae, is an amazing role model for women. She led her people, commanding the respect of all, men and women alike, and she knew how to defend her people from foreign invasion and how to rule her own land without infringing on others. She also showed amazing hospitality, offering her guests plenty to drink. I fear, though, that she doesn't get the appreciation that she deserves.
