Lalah explicitly stated that she loves both Amuro and Char and that they both have pure souls in every variation. I don't think he's related to either and the real RX-78 and Beyond the Time are Red Herrings. I think realistically Machu will not be able to measure up to stop Shuji and Lalah/Amuro /Char will pull some newtype shenanigans to save the day. They couldn't have made it more clear in this episode, that Machu is not a effectual Amuro/Kamille/Judau type character. She's just a passenger along for the ride.
