For majority of the show's run I just saw Chalia as a "sexy dapper ossan" and nothing more (not that there's a problem with that I like the eyecandy) and I'm glad he's firmly settled into the role of a proper mentor for Machu and Newtypes in general. For a show all about adults forever being trapped in the past and manipulating the youth as a result it's nice to have Challia be the one who actually has at least Machu's best interests at heart. For now. I guess. Who the fuck knows the bullshit that'll go down in the finale.

Truthfully though my enjoyment tanked once we left the space colony. I'm not even that big of a Gundam fan. I was just here for Tsurumaki and Enokido and the neat urban scifi setting. Not my first Gundam show but after this it definitely feels like my last. Ah well.

The OG few had a very clear theme.
0079 genuinely is about showing you how war really sucks. Zeta switches gears to establish the whole cycle of violence and transhumanism. War in a Pocket is a zoom in on the personal horror with no real purpose that occurs in war.

GQuuux is about UC fan service. This show is unwatchable without having seen the standard UC core.
The closest comparison is SRW game stories, not old Gundam.

Gcucks is about fanservice but it has themes in it. It's just poorly done. But in terms of structure, it's pretty similar to the old UC gundams minus the middle parts if you think about it. The first few episodes of Nyaan, Shuji, and Machu doing clan battles in the colony is similar to the beginning of ZZ where Judau and the gang dick around. Nyaan and Machu get separated and shoved into the war which mirrors "when things get serious", but then the plot essentially fast forwards to the end with the big final battle. There's no space journey. There's no gradual character development. It's just a big skip button. That's what I meant. The final battle in Zeta or ZZ wouldn't be nearly as effectively if you didn't spend the past 40-50 episodes with the same cast of characters. Now I get that modern shows won't have that amount of runtime but they basically made no adjustments to take that into account.
