Yeah from what I've noticed most of the people who defend universal weapons are either dumbasses that got filtered by classes having tradeoffs, or "competitive BF e-celeb players" or associates that only play on specific maps or gamemodes where they get to inflate their Battlelog/tracker stats by using the best guns and class that heavily favors their playstyle, like playing Assault in Locker BF4 with the AEK, or playing Medic ZK-383 in Devastation/Marita/Operation Underground in BFV, or using the SFAR/PP-29 with Falck or Mackay in 2042 maps like Redcated and Haven (or Breakthrough since the map layouts are smaller compared to Conquest).
