I think to make them interesting and have "hype moments and aura" without forcing them into some unfitting dbz themes would just be to make them a comedic team like say in the frame of the penguins from madagascar. Have them get into hijinks and do nonsensical things that still end up saving the day. I'm thinking more like the depiction of the penguins in the spinoff film with two sequences that stand out the most. The chase in venice and the skydiving from the planes. It's quick, its snappy and utterly stupid but thats the charm and it's cool. Now that Whisper has no baggage, they should focus on bringing out her outgoing traits again with emphasis on her secret love for destruction and blood. Have her be the new lead of the new diamond cutters and have her be a bit more of a dare devil/thrill seeker. This will give her more chemistry with Tangle to go in tandem with her outgoing adventurous tendencies. The difference (nuance) between them though is that may go too far sometimes and Tangle's there the ground things when it gets out of hand. Lanolin still gets to keep her role as the straight woman (lol) of the group that cant handle nonsense, but as shes not the leader anymore, she can't be a killjoy and instead gets framed as the reluctant one that still joins in on the wild activities. She's the one that'll be hanging off of Tangle or Whisper in fear as something explodes in the background behind them or the sensible backup plan that catches something they miss when they're a little too reckless. There would be no deconstruction of their tendencies for drama to make them abandon each other and do something stupid, this would just be their dynamic as it should be and all is well. No explaining things, they just do shit and Tangle using her tail or Whisper using her hover wispon will have them flee the scene when they need to. Incompetently competent is what I want to see.
