Unironically in my childhood.
My mom used to tell me that little gnomes come to people at night, and poop in their mouth, so that's why I have to brush my teeth in the morning. I was fucking terrified and every morning for some time I'd try to look for gnome shit in my mouth.
If I ever have kids I am definitely reusing that story and leaving my kids with a fear of the shit gnomes.
