I actually really love the idea that Kaworu would have been bad for Shinji and it's ultimately in Shinji's best interest that he gets murked. There's an alternate timeline where Shinji becomes Kaworu's gay butt slut for all eternity and I don't think it would have been good for him. Maybe he would have felt pleasure, but it wouldn't have led to lasting happiness.
