Question for older anons

What is a blue book exam? I havent taken any test at my school that mentioned a blue book but the school sells them at most school stores. When i was at orientation the poor kid on the tour was like

Which i assume is a generic thing they all are told to say, like "oh the library is sinking cause of all the books" or whatever

i dont understand and i get the impression its just an older thing from the predigital era or maybe its like a major specific thing? Can someone explain?
