I've just explained that not all QTE's have to behave the same. And even if I made the concession that it's not a QTE, the mechanic fucking sucks because it funnels you into the same limited options for every enemy and boss.
Wanna stop the enemy's move? Gotta use yokai counter.
Don't want to use yokai counter? Well you gotta eat the bullshit that might be a powerful move.
Prepared to suck it up and just dodge? Tough shit, you're going to eat a water twister from Suiki because its animation is longer than your dodge frames.
