In that paragraph you failed to explain why theist wouldn't be a more meaningful category. After all, there are atheists and other groups who believe that a guy named Abraham existed, but they deny the concept of God as described in the Bible, which is a more important and meaningful distinction. You would lump them together with theists for unknown reasons, seemingly either political motivations, or based on copying atheist books that use the term.
