It's about creating a mentally stimulating and immersive adventure. It doesn't take a rocket surgeon to identify lazy and rushed map design. Crawlers live and die by their maps, the whole game is exploring maps, they shouldn't be something cooked up in 20 minutes. Everything about these handheld crawlers is so shitty and soulless, which is why in Proving Grounds you can find unique stuff like a ring that shoots fireballs, but in EO and SJ you're just picking up armor with higher stats on it. Demon's Souls is a more accurate successor to Wizardry because it recreates the joy of exploring unique levels and finding interesting treasure. These handheld games are just low effort time wasters for little kids.
