Running around actually consumes a lot of energy for Bunnies, while walking doesnt consume any energy whatsoever.
So there is basically no "time limit" if you're actually playing stealthy and carefully. You're only on a timer if you're constantly running everywhere.

As for Magician checking every corpse, that also eats up his energy, not to mention being extremely time-consuming, so he really cant afford to do it constantly, so playing dead is a very viable strategy if you're doing it right.
